Capacity-building
Thanks to financial support from the Department for Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE), utpELLES launched an ambitious project in July 2024 aimed at strengthening our organization and preparing for the upcoming opening of our new residential facility. This project, called “A Solid and Supportive Roof,” will take place over two years and aims to ensure the organization’s sustainability while adapting our services to a growing clientele with needs that are often complex.
Project goals
- Strengthen our governance structure and procedures as a feminist organization, notably by setting up a task force responsible for supervising the services available in our future residential facility.
- Develop a revenue diversification strategy and a self-financing plan in order to ensure we can continue to carry out our actions on the long term.
- Expand our network of provincial partners to optimize our capacity to respond to the needs of women in search of safe housing.
- Set up an effective communication strategy in order to increase our visibility and to better inform the public and stakeholders.
Why this project is essential
“Access to affordable and safe housing is an essential condition for leaving prostitution. The lack of adequate housing resources inevitably leads to irreparable damage, both physical and mental. It’s urgent to find lasting solutions. Every woman who receives adequate assistance reduces the number of hospitalizations, crowding in shelters, impacts on loved ones, and collateral damage.”
